GEnder Roles and Nontraditional Families
Gender Roles are a big part of how society functions; especially in family dynamics. From the time we are born, we begin to learn about the "right" and "wrong" ways to "do gender." This can be looked at in the sense of "girls like pink" and "boys like the color blue." As these gender roles become embedded into how we are raised, we often unconsciously do our gender without even knowing it. We start to develop the mindset of what is appropriate and what is not appropriate, emulating the ways that society has taught us to act on our gender and what is appropriate for our sex assignments. Communities like the LGBTQ community and feminist activists consider these aspects of gender roles in our society to be degrading, and traditional families are now becoming the new nontraditional. Here on our website we explore what our society has formed gender roles into, how this has impacted society as a whole, and how these effects trickle into other generations.
